Co-presented by the News & Documentary Program at New York University and the Transborder Film Foundation, Landscapes in Dispute: A Transborder Film Showcase builds on its first edition and continues to explore migration and border-crossing experiences along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Presenting documentary and experimental films from the 1990s to now, this program explores film- and art-making around the border. Filmmakers and artists engage with the border through the built space, the natural landscape, and the public sphere, where competing narratives collide and take shape. The selected films expose gaps between official accounts and lived experiences and between dominant political positions and radical artistic practices. Collectively, they interrogate the politics of hospitality, while reshaping discourses about the border through poetry, archives, artistic intervention, and activism.
In-person Q&A with Carla Astorga, director of Polaris (2026). Moderated by Juana Suárez, Associate Professor, NYU Cinema Studies; Director, Moving Image Archiving & Preservation Program.
